PSMTP

Welcome to the Public Sector Management Training Programme (PSMTP)
In 2003, the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) instituted a process to introduce the Public Sector Management Training Programme (PSMTP) across Africa. The process included visits to potential Institutions in Africa, by independent Consultants. This was done in an attempt to assess the institutional capabilities of some Institutions which had been earmarked to offer such programmes. The criteria for selecting the Institutions included; the quality of existing programmes, competency, educational facilities, and infrastructure of the Institutions. Based on this criteria, the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), was selected out of the five identified Institutions, to host the PSMTP in Anglophone West Africa.

In September 2005, GIMPA and ACBF signed an agreement by which the ACBF financially supported GIMPA to host the PSMTP for Anglophone West Africa. Under this agreement GIMPA in 2006 set up a Master’s Degree programme in Public Sector Management for middle to senior level public sector managers from five (5) Anglophone West African countries which are: Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and The Gambia. As part of the collaboration between ACBF and GIMPA, the PSMTP is ran by GIMPA in partnership with the five Anglophone West African countries.

The main goal of the PSMTP is to enhance the performance of the public sector through the provision of a balanced, academic and professional training in Public Sector Management in Africa. The PSMTP-GIMPA is under the GIMPA School of Public Service and Governance, (GSPSG). PSMTP fits into GIMPA’s mandate – its vision and mission – and complements the existing graduate, diploma; certificate and other competency- based training programmes. The academic year for PSMTP covers the period from January to December each year.
