BSc. Accounting Programme

The Bachelor of Science Accounting programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive curriculum filled with accounting management principles. The programme seeks to provide students with practical management skills, knowledge, competencies and other relevant skills needed to stimulate their professional development in the areas of accounting.
Objectives:
Following the broad aim, the programme specifically seeks to achieve the following objectives:
• To equip students with high level of knowledge of the various concepts of accounting to create solutions to contemporary business problems
• To equip students with analytical skills to support sound decision making concerned with developing accounting systems which promote the effective management of an organisation
• To train students with practical knowledge in the fields of accounting coupled with integrity and high ethical standards to support the industry.

BSc. Finance Programme

The primary aim of the Bachelor of Science Finance programme is to train students with rigorous grounding in the theory, techniques and tools required for operating in today’s financial environment. Students will acquire the necessary quantitative skills to equip them with a strong financial foundation, as well as understanding the logic behind the use of specific finance techniques and financial decision-making. The programme also requires analytical thinking to critically evaluate key issues in finance from a variety of perspectives.
Objectives:
• To equip students with fundamental principles and concepts in finance with an ideal balance of finance, economics, accounting and more general management knowledge to thrive in high pressured environments

Business Management

BSc. Business Administration Programme

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration programme is designed for students seeking to acquire a high level of knowledge from a broad base of business concepts to create solutions to contemporary business problems. Students will acquire the skills needed to integrate management, marketing, accounting, and finance concepts to develop strategies to improve short, medium, and long-term organizational performance.

BSc. Human Resource Management Programme

People of an organisation contribute significantly to the overall success of the business. Hence, the Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management programme seeks to equip students with thorough theoretical and practical understanding of key areas in human resource management. In light of this, the programme seeks to prepare students for HRM or managerial career in industry or the public sector.

The Bachelor of Science in Marketing programme is designed for students seeking to acquire a concentration of marketing knowledge within a broad base of business concepts. Students will acquire insights into the marketing process and the cutting-edge marketing techniques needed by marketing managers. Hence, this programme seeks to equip students with thorough theoretical and practical understanding of marketing products and services. Tourism and Hospitality Management*

The Bachelor of Science in Tourism and Hospitality Management programme seeks to offer students with thorough theoretical and practical understanding of key areas of management within tourism, hospitality and leisure areas. The programme is designed to provide students with practical management skills, knowledge, competencies and other relevant skills needed to promote the tourism and hospitality industry

Management Science

BSc. Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management

With Ghana’s agenda to industrialise, these four-year programmes seek to develop critical human resource to support the industrialisation agenda. This programme, essentially, provides and equips participants with the skills to plan, source, transform and control the efficient and effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to satisfy or create value for consumers.
Objectives:
Referring to the aim, the programme specifically seeks to achieve the following objectives:
• To equip students with fundamental principles and concepts of procurement, logistics and supply chain management
• To equip students with analytical skills to support sound decision making in the fields of procurement, logistics and supply chain management in this era of information and analytics-driven economies.
• To train students with practical knowledge in the fields of procurement, logistics and supply chain coupled with integrity and high ethical standards to support the industry.

BSc. Project Management

Projects are currently used as the modus operandi in realising organisational goals in both public and private sectors. Hence, this four-year programme seeks to prepare graduates to effectively select, plan, control and manage all kinds of projects (big and small) in any work environment.
Objectives:
Referring to the aim, the programme specifically seeks to achieve the following objectives:
• To equip students with sound knowledge of project environments as a base for effectively selecting projects.
• To equip students with critical thinking skills to lead and manage integrated projects in organisations both in the public and private sectors
• To ensure students master critical project management tools, techniques and skills to successfully manage projects in any work environment.

Graduate Programmes

Master of Accounting and Finance

The Programme is designed to prepare successful applicants to strategically manage their organization’s financial and other key resources. The aim is to develop the graduate students’ knowledge in key financial areas while developing their business and leadership skills, which can only be acquired by earning an advanced degree at GIMPA. Accounting and finance managers and leaders in all sectors, as well as aspiring graduate students who want to be more effective in today’s challenging business environment, are encouraged to apply.
The uniqueness of the Programme lies in its flexibility and practical emphasis without compromising academic research and rigour. The modern state-of-the-art lecture theatres and facilities coupled with electronic learning materials with wireless internet connectivity, as well as electronic library facilities provide students with an exclusive environment that facilitate advanced teaching and learning in a comfortable setting.
The programme is geared towards graduates with little to moderate professional working experience after their bachelors’ degrees or professional certificates. The focus is on developing marketing managers with strategic and decision-making abilities. As such, there is much more emphasis on using the case method and other problem-solving tools as opposed to traditional rote learning approaches used in much of management education in Ghana.
The curriculum is designed to provide graduates with both broad accounting and finance education. It prepares graduates to demonstrate a commitment to accounting and finance expertise in the field, immediately enhancing their career prospects. The entrepreneurial component of the programme also aims at equipping participants with skills that will enable them to set up and manage their own businesses profitably or contributes significantly to the growth and success of organisations.

Admission requirements

An applicant to the Master of Accounting and Finance programme is required to have earned a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent as follows:

• The applicant must have a good first degree with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division minimum OR

• The applicant must hold a professional qualification in Accounting such as ACCA, CA, CIMA. OR

• Applicants with degree classifications lower than 2nd Class Lower must take the GIMPA Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Business Administration (CBA/DBA) programmes at the Business School and obtain pass marks of at least 55% in each course.

• Applicants without accounting/finance or management degrees or training should have practical experience of at least one year in a recognised organisation or firm.

Master of Human Resource Management

The Master of Human Resource Management is a one-year, full-time master’s degree programme designed to prepare professionals to advance their careers in the field of human resources (HR). The programme emphasizes the strategic role that human resources play in the performance of global organizations, providing students and practitioners with the knowledge and skills needed to be effective HR leaders with an entrepreneurial mindset. In addition, students will learn about key HR processes and activities, including staffing, talent management, total rewards, performance management, employee motivation, learning, training and development, and employee relations. Finally, students will explore key topics that are increasingly important to HR, including managing in a global context, diversity and inclusion, and managing HR in small and entrepreneurial firms.

Master of Marketing

The Master of Marketing is a one-year programme being proposed to contribute positively to developing critical marketing management skilled personnel needed to fill more senior roles within various organisations. It is submitted that the Master of Marketing Programme being proposed is in furtherance of GIMPA’s endeavour to fulfil its mandate.
The major purpose of the Master of Marketing degree programme is to train and contribute to the human resource with entrepreneurial mind-set in Ghana, particularly at upper levels of corporate marketing management. The Master of Marketing programme is designed to provide training in marketing management and strategy for successful employment in both public and private organizations. This programme is intended to equip candidates with the requisite knowledge and understanding of the principles and theories underlying effective marketing practice and provide them with leading-edge contemporary marketing skills.
The programme is geared towards graduates with little to moderate professional working experience after their bachelors’ degrees or professional certificates. The focus is on developing marketing managers with strategic and decision-making abilities. As such, there is much more emphasis on using the case method and other problem-solving tools as opposed to traditional rote learning approaches used in much of management education in Ghana.

Master of Quality Management

The major purpose of the Master of Quality Management degree programme is to help strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness by improving organizational performance practices, capabilities, and communication sharing of best practices to drive the Ghanaian and global economy, particularly at upper levels of corporate Quality Management. The Master’s programme is designed to provide training in Quality Management and strategy for successful employment in both public and private organizations. This programme is intended to equip candidates with the requisite knowledge and understanding of the principles and theories underlying effective Quality Management practice and provide them with leading-edge contemporary skills.
The programme is geared towards graduates with little to moderate professional working experience after their bachelors’ degrees or professional certificates. The focus is on developing Quality Management managers with strategic and decision-making abilities. As such, there is much more emphasis on using the case method and other problem-solving tools as opposed to traditional rote learning approaches used in much of management education in Ghana.
The need for this one year Master program is informed by the demand from past and prospecting participants in their quest for specialised and a compressed duration graduate programme.

Master of Supply Chain Management (MSCM)

The main objectives of the Master of Supply Chain Management Program are to help participants understand the key problems and issues within the Supply Chain and the necessary skills and tools in dealing with them. Specifically, the program is aimed at:
• To develop academically sound and professionally qualified graduates for careers in functional logistics and supply chain areas and at top managerial levels.

Master of Project Management (MPM)

The main objectives of the Master of Project Management Program are to help participants understand the key problems and issues within the business environment, conceptualize them and how to solve them using the right project management methodologies and tools. Specifically, the program is aimed at:

Master of Natural Resource Accounting

Master’s in Business Administration (MBA)

The GIMPA Masters in Business Administration (MBA) is a professional degree. The MBA programme is designed to provide a strong and advanced education in business management and also to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary for the attainment of a competitive edge in Business Administration. The programme is geared towards graduates with little to moderate professional working experience after their bachelors’ degrees or professional certificates. The focus is on developing managers with decision-making abilities. As such, there is much more emphasis on using the case study and other problem-solving tools. Unlike the EMBA, this programme allows for in-depth specializations as most entry to middle-level managers focus on a functional area in terms of their employment responsibilities.

  • A Bachelors Degree from an approved/recognized university with a second class lower division minimum, plus two years post-graduation professional experience.
  • A lower class degree, then five years post-graduation professional experience plus additional postgraduate or professional certificate/education such as the GIMPA postgraduate or certificate in business administration.
    OR
  • Professional qualifications such as ACCA, ICA, ICSA, GIPS, CIB, plus three years post-qualification experience.
  • Applicants with degree classifications below second class lower division and/or narrowly-focused professional qualifications should enroll in the GIMPA Diploma in Business Administration (DBA) programmes at the Business School to enhance their chances of gaining admission.

Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA)

The GIMPA EMBA is a professional degree that is specially designed to equip graduates with the knowledge, attitude and skills required by chief executives and other top-level managers to meet effectively the leadership and managerial challenges they face in their organizations. As such, the programme adopts a generalist perspective that is relevant to those at senior management ranks and does not provide for specialization in any functional area of business. Some specific characteristics of the programme are as follows:

• Prepares graduates for strategic leadership roles within organizations

  • A Bachelors Degree (from an approved/recognized university or equivalent professional qualification with requisite experience).
  • At least five years post qualification managerial experience.
  • Applicant should be at least thirty (30) years of age.

Master of Research in Business Administration (MRes)

The Master of Research in Business Administration (MRes) is a research-based degree that prepares graduates for academic careers in various functional areas of business at tertiary institutions and in the research departments of organizations. The programme emphasizes the development of skills in understanding theory, the research process and methodology. Graduates of the program are expected to make contributions to the advancement of knowledge of business practices through research, teaching and consulting. It is also designed for those interested in acquiring a doctoral degree in the future.

  • Strong quantitative orientation/background.
  • Second class upper minimum for graduates in business, economics and other social sciences.
  • Second class lower minimum for graduates in mathematics, statistics and typeering related sciences.
  • For the programme in Accounting, a terminal professional qualification would be an added advantage.
  • Expressed interest in teaching at the tertiary level.
  • Sponsorship by a tertiary institution will be an added advantage.
Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma Programmes:

Diploma in Business Administration (DBA) and Certificate in Business Administration (CBA)

The diploma programme moves beyond the basic concepts introduced in the Certificate in Business Administration to focus on core business functions. The goal is to give students a deeper understanding of key business functions within a firm. Students are encouraged to explore these functional areas in preparation for more advanced career positions.

  • Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Applicants should normally have obtained at the Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration (CBA) and shown excellent performance at the level to be admitted. However, those with degrees in Economics, Commerce and Accounting with working experience may be admitted without the CBA.
  • Applicants should be 25 years and above with at least two (2) years work experience.
  • Applicants who wish to pursue MBA/EMBA with a class lower than a lower degree are advised to take this programme to enhance their chances.

Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration (CBA)

  • Applicants should hold a Bachelors Degree or equivalent professional qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Applicants should be twenty-five (25) years and above with at least one (1) year work experience.
